A Secret from World Class Leaders- Part 1

by | Jan 3, 2018 | Blogs

What does it take to become ‘World Class’ at what you do?

Maybe that is an ambition of yours or maybe not but regardless, there is one fact we know for sure. You want to achieve success, success on your terms and what success means to you personally as well as professionally.

Early on in my journey as a coach & speaker, one of my first mentors often quoted Jim Rohn and used to say ‘success leaves clues’. At the time, I hadn’t truly comprehended the power of this statement….but now I do truly.

If we want to achieve any result whether it is taking your company & business to the next level or maximising your health, by studying history and looking at the people & organisations that have created the results you want, you can start spotting a number of patterns and clues on the ‘how to’s’ of achieving the results you envision.

Because success does leave clues, if you choose to look close enough.

Success Leaves Clues

For part 1 of this week’s article, I want to share with you the first of a series of clues i’ve spotted through coaching some extraordinary leaders who are dedicated to becoming world class and leaving a powerful legacy behind.

The 1st clue for todays article is the power of Deep Practice.

Deep practice meaning consistently finding one area to grow & then focusing on real mastery of that area.

Leaders & visionaries love growth because growth truly feeds who we are, our being, soul, mindset and persona. Any living organism that stops growing starts declining and growth is what we are built for whether physically, psychologically or emotionally.

Importantly within leadership, we can only give to others what we give ourselves.

The education, learning & development you personally invest in for you will constantly contribute to the business/team culture around you that others follow which is why a growth orientation is vital to make tremendous progress

There is a famous principle stating that it takes 10,000 hours to master any skillset or talent. Spending 10,000 hours in deep focus, practice & repetition to achieve the result you want.

Repetition is truly the mother of all skill & execution is the father.

Through working with a number of leaders I have found that we all want to achieve/feel success & fulfilment… but the truth is we don’t get what we want, but what we demand and command from ourselves with repetition, focus & consistency.

So here is my challenge to you. Whether you are an Entrepreneur and run a business, or you lead teams from 10 to hundreds+ or you want to be a leader at home for your kids,

I challenge you to find an area you want to become extraordinary/world class at and then every day for the next 60 days, spend minimum 1 hour each day in deep focus studying, practicing, rehearsing that skill set.

What will happen is:

1. Whatever you choose to practice will become second nature

2. You will move from unconscious incompetence, through conscious incompetence right up to conscious competence meaning you are aware of your blind spots but also what you are becoming masterful at.

Will you take the challenge on? What do you want to create World Class mastery at/within?

I’d love to hear from you below and please do feel free to leave a comment or share this post with your network/team.

I hope you enjoyed reading part 1 of the ‘World Class Leadership’ series.

Keep an eye out for part 2 next week where I will be diving deep in to another clue that can help you transform your performance & the impact you are creating both in the office and at home.

Here’s to your continued success & if there is anything I can do to serve or support yourself and/or your business or if you have any questions about my latest article then please feel free to reach out to me here or at [email protected].

Your friend and coach,
